To me, that moment marked the end of the idea of America as I understood it — the completion of a slow‑moving erosion that commentators had warned about for years. “In Memoriam” reflects that grief. It’s not a call for despair, but a way to acknowledge loss and resist the normalization of authoritarian behavior. It’s a protest against the spectacle planned for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and a reminder that democracy is not guaranteed.
